provides lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin A, C3G, and saffron: hard to get nutrients that help support the eye’s delicate photoreceptor cells, promote macular and retinal health and support healthy night vision. It is our best-selling formula for eye health.
Maintaining healthy levels of carotenoids, like lutein and zeaxanthin that make up the macular pigment in your retina is essential for maintaining eye health. Macular pigment density is also essential to healthy vision. But levels of macular pigment gradually decline over time. That’s why MacuGuard® contains lutein as well as trans-zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin, powerful carotenoids that are difficult to get from diet alone.
Lutein and zeaxanthin support underlying photoreceptor cells against oxidative stress, inhibit the effects of excess light and promote a healthy inflammatory response to support eye health. We’ve also added Alpha-carotene which your body needs to make vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential to maintain a healthy eye structure and function.
Phospholipids help support phytonutrients like lutein reach the bloodstream. They also help protect active compounds from degradation. Pre-clinical evidence indicates that phospholipids can promote lutein absorption, encouraging the circulation and accumulation of lutein within the retina.
MacuGuard® also contains cyanidin-3-glucoside, a flavonoid derived from European black currant berry extract. Pre-clinical evidence suggests that this potent antioxidant encourages the regeneration of rhodopsin, a light-sensitive retinal pigment which promotes visual acuity in low-light conditions.
Age-related decline of rhodopsin plays a role in the loss of night vision, so this nutrient may support healthy night vision in older eyes. C3G can also help inhibit inflammation to support eye health.
This formula also includes saffron to support healthy vision. People supplementing with saffron showed seeing an average of two additional lines on the Snellen eye chart commonly used by doctors to test vision.
