Will Quercetin Offer Relief from Fall Allergies?

What supplements can be taken to offset the effects of the fall equinox?
Ragweed pollen drives fall allergies, peaking around mid-September, and several brands offer quercetin-containing formulations that may relieve symptoms. Research and sources suggest quercetin can help with allergy symptoms, with supplements typically delivering higher amounts than foods.

If you suffer from fall allergies, the chances are good that ragweed is to blame. Fortunately, Klaire Labs, Cardiovascular Research LTD, Vital Nutrients, Progressive Laboratories and several other providers offer formulations containing quercetin that may provide relief.

According to the Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America, “When mid-August nights grow longer, ragweed flowers mature and release pollen. Warm weather, humidity and breezes after sunrise help release the pollen. The pollen then travels through the air.” Mid-September is the usually considered the peak of ragweed season.

As Medical News Today reports, “Research suggests that adding quercetin to the diet may help to relieve allergy symptoms.”

Medical News Today identifies some of the food and herbs that contain quercetin, such as apples, black tea, broccoli, grapes, red wine and red onions. “However, taking supplements of quercetin will work better in the treatment of allergies than eating foods that contain it. This is because foods contain significantly lower levels of the flavonoid,” they say.
